During August and September 2024, activities were carried out as part of the Dissemination Plan for Ecuador. These actions focused primarily on transferring tools and information that will help in the production of sustainable cocoa in relation to the challenges posed by cadmium contamination and climate change.

Participation in the Chokao 2024 Fair:

A stand was set up to present information on research related to cadmium mitigation and climate change. During the fair, presentations were given that attracted various actors in the cocoa value chain, including producers and representatives from academic and government institutions. The interaction helped to clarify doubts about European regulations on cadmium and the available mitigation alternatives [Read the full article about participation in this Fair here].

These meetings included technicians and farmers, providing a space for questions and answers about agricultural practices and their implications for contamination.

Dissemination Workshops in Guayas and Napo:

Between September 16 and 27, in-person workshops were held for community leaders and farmers. Critical issues such as the impact of cadmium regulation and potential sources of contamination were addressed, adapting the content to the specific agroecological characteristics of each region.

Effective coordination between the different actors involved in the project was key to the success of the activities. These not only provided valuable information, but also fostered meaningful exchange among participants, allowing them to identify key questions about cadmium regulation and its effects on agricultural production.
